Hobo's were migratory workers famed throughout American in the later part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. They would live a nomadic lifesytle, camping out along their journeys. Similar in ways to todays 'van life' but they would travel in search of work using the trains to get around.
We discovered some would leave their monikers painted or etched much like modern day graffiti tags. Scribing their nick name, their direction of travel and the year they past through.
As we delved deeper in to their lifestyle we also discovered they used an underground language of symbols to advise and warn other travellers of various important information. Perhaps if a dangerous person lived near or a freindly person who might offer work and food. We also found a passage in an old book descibing the rules or commandments by which they'd live by.
Using these inspired our latest tee and we created this design using different sized marker pens (they would have probably used chalk, knives or paint) to create an authentic looking design filled with the symbols that best fit with our ethos here at Otso.
See if you can discover the code and work out what everything means ( it's printed on the inside, but shh it's a secret! )
